Tips and Trends
Respecting the period of your home:
When remodeling any area in your home it is important that the changes be current, tasteful and functional while maintaining continuity with the design of your home. We often make an analogy between automobiles and a remodeling project. A Mercedes and Ferrari are both expensive and beautiful automobiles. However, a Ferrari with a Mercedes interior looks awkward and out of place. By the same token, a turn-of-the-century home such as a 1920s colonial with original floors, moldings and doors would look awkward with an ultramodern room. If care is taken during the design phase of the remodeling project, the end result will be both current in features while maintaining the continuity and harmony of your home.
Successful remodeling through planning not by chance:
The key to a smooth remodeling project is the planning that takes place before the project begins. Decide on the flow, feeling and functionality that you need from the respective space. Spend time in that area. Use tape to mark changes in the area. Hang sheets where new walls would be. Visualize your new view as you enter the area. Remember, there is no cost in making a change before the project starts. The cost of design changes during construction may be extensive.
